Space Archive

A family-run brokerage firm, Space Archive curates high-end properties and villas in Goa and the Himalayas.

On a quick trip to Goa for a friend's wedding, I bumped into Joshayet Kapur, who hired me to create a website for high-end properties in Goa and the Himalayas. Joshayet was involved throughout the creative process for a site this is minimalist, iconic and premium. We settled on a one-page website in white with tones of salmon pink and line drawings that resemble architectural structures. I created an admin interface using Couch CMS, so Joshayet has full control over the content and images of his site.

Diligent Financial Planning

Diligent Financial Planning is a fee only advisory firm committed to their client’s financial health and well-being

Diligent Financial Planning overhauled their Wordpress site for a custom, clean site with curated content and elegant animations on scroll.

Favianna Rodriguez

Favianna Rodriguez is an interdisciplinary artist, cultural strategist, and social justice activist

Favianna Rodriguez hired CoLab to create an art repository for the hundreds of artworks she has created over the years. Her art and praxis address migration, economic inequality, gender justice, sexual freedom and ecology. We worked closely with Favianna to create a minimal, responsive site that allows users to explore her in-depth work across multiple disciplines and various forms of media.

MHI is a funding agency for innovative mental health initiatives, with a focus on making mental health accessible to marginalized persons and communities.

In 2016, I worked with MHI on a simple, blog-style website that was revamped in 2018. The site was transformed to a crisp, black-and-white interface that uses illustrations and infographics to condense MHI’s mission and purpose. The site was coded to be as accessible as possible for users with visual and motor disabilities.

Portfolio for worker-owned digital agency

Based in Ithaca, New York, Colab is probably the most empathetic, socially motivated digital agency I know. I've been freelancing remotely with them since 2013, working on websites and HTML5 apps.
When they asked me to work on the front-end of their website, I was more than pleased to. The site has immersive, fullscreen backgrounds, lucid, visual content, and subtle, yet meaningful animations, including smooth image pixelations on scroll. Revised

The world's most popular EDM portal needed an overhaul, from its busy avatar to something sleek and truly responsive revised and ramped up its web app, moving to a more minimal, yet stunning design, in a single page app that streams tonnes of free electronic music, has blogs, artist interviews, playlists and charts.
I worked with The EDM Network and Colab on this project, translating very custom designs into a responsive UI, with re-usable UI modules and structure provided to the CSS via the preprocessor Sass.

Note: The website has been rebranded since.

Gallery Maskara Redesign

At Gallery Maskara, tucked away in a Colaba bylane, the ceiling is miles high - beautiful for tall, massive installations...

Gallery Maskara's old site in Flash was looking dated. Besides, they had issues with a powerful, but inflexible CMS.

We created very clean, minimal layouts, courtesy Design Concentrate, and built a fluid site with a CMS in Django/Python. A custom image zooming tool was also built to load and view high-resolution images responsively in the browser. The connections between artists, events, exhibitions were complex and handled efficiently, with a very in-depth Content Management System.

Marlon Rodriguess

Marlon directs ad and feature films. He's one of the funniest persons I know, and makes amazing chai!

Marlon needed to ditch his older website in favour of an adaptive one that would work across desktop/tablet/mobile. It's a simple, one page director showreel, with HTML5 videos that load fast and are very crisp - great bandwidth/quality ratio. Simple, linear and scale animations add dynamism to the site. This one happened over steaming cups of green and light black tea!

India Someday

Boutique travel company with soul, that caters to an international audience, many of whom are visiting the country for the first time

India Someday customizes tours for visitors to India the same way you’d prepare a meal for old friends – with warmth, passion and diligence. Co-founders Abbas and Harsh wanted a site that was informal yet classy, friendly, minimal and easily accessible by all, no matter the user’s device…

It was difficult to fit the existing logo within the rest of the user interface, but we achieved it over some iterations. The site has simple, but effective CSS3 animations, plenty of accordions for text, and long forms that are easy to breeze through. It manages to evoke the riot of colors associated with an Indian summer, without going over the top.
And of course, India Someday is responsive across all devices and screens.

Note: The website has been rebranded since.

TrueNorth Attendance App

Jogesh Motwani, Academic Head, True North Learning Systems, couldn’t handle those darned Excel sheets any more for attendance.

When True North decided to open a second branch for SAT, ACT, GRE and GMAT training courses, they asked us to build a responsive HTML5 web app for in-house use that was optimised for tablets and touch devices. The app had various levels of permission for admin, staff, tutors, students and parents, for attendance to be marked and viewed on smartphones, tablets or desktops.

Each class has a tablet running Android that tutors and staff use to create lengthy profiles, mark and monitor attendance.

Built atop jQuery Mobile, the app is very touch friendly and intuitive, and uses responsive widgets and HTML5 native form fields for easy input of data.

Our Platform Designfolio

It was time for Amisha Khemani Jaggi, typographic designer and founder of Our Platform, to reconstruct her Flash based online portfolio.

This project was done for Design Concentrate, and the designs came via Our Platform. The old Flash website was overhauled and a clean layout in white, pear green and brown has replaced it. The client requested a carousel at the top, where each image represents a portfolio work.

The PSD templates provided were converted to a responsive website, and the responsive breakpoints added as per our discretion. We managed to maintain the visual integrity of the graphic designer’s vision, despite the fluid nature of a responsive website.

Sonia Faleiro

This entire project happened over email and Skype since the author was constantly shuttling between villages and cities across continents.

Sonia wanted to redo her website and was sure she wanted a classic look, white background, pure black type and one strong pop of colour across the site. Typography and trimming the content were very, very important.

After a few iterations, we succeeded in restraining her content, completely revamping the navigation and allowing the user interface to breathe. A lush maroon provides the pop of colour in a sticky menu at the top. The responsive site stretches and squishes across mouse and touch devices.

Shernavaz's Artfolio

Shernavaz sketches and paints charcoals and oils, drawing largely from nature, topography and the human body.

We sat a few times, Shernavaz (she is luminescent), her daughter Zasha (she co-runs Clark House) and envisioned something clean, intelligent and beautiful.

The layout is responsive using pure CSS and media queries. It resizes seamlessly across devices. Fluid layouts are harder to achieve, but the end result is always worth it. We provided swatches on the bottom left for users to choose.

Macgregor Techknowlogy crafted a custom CMS, to easily upload and update images and content.

Chhoti Productions

Nandita Das, veteran actress and social worker, set up a production company with Subodh Maskara.

The company's aim is to bring quality performances via the medium of theatre and film to a large audience. Eisha Maskara from Design Concentrate created the graphics in Photoshop, which we converted into a responsive website, with fairly complex breakpoints to achieve the same.

The fullscreen background images were converted to grayscale, coupled with bold text and headings in deep orange to create an impact. A pert CMS was built to handle the sections for press and individual productions.

Note: The website has been rebranded since.

Holy Name Cathedral

Old stone, Gothic arches and octagonal spires form the edifice of this beatiful church and its community.

Badly in need of a website to document its past and current affairs, we were approached by the CCC (Catholic Communication Centre), who had designed PSD templates that needed to be converted to code.

In addition to the front end, we built a CMS in Django, with editable menus, a custom search, options to add template pages, news, galleries, videos, announcements, daily mass schedules and more.

Sanjay wrote a lightweight gallery slider plugin and a one-level click menu in jQuery for the project.
